After being shut out on four hits for eight innings, the Expos exploded for seven runs in the ninth and defeated the Reds, 7-2. Tim Foli and Ron Woods started the uprising with singles to chase Don Gullett. After Clay Carroll relieved, Boots Day doubled to score Foli. Following an intentional walk to Ron Fairly, Mike Jorgensen was announced as a pinch-hitter for Jorge Roque.

When the Reds brought lefthander Tom Hall to the mound, Bob Bailey batted for Jorgensen and walked to force in the tying run. John Boccabella and Pepe Frias followed with doubles, each driving in two runs, and Ron Hunt then laid down a squeeze bunt to plate the final tally. [The Sporting News]
