Dick Tidrow yielded only two hits in his best major league performance so far and pitched the Indians to a 1-0 victory over the Athletics. With Vida Blue sidelined by a knee injury, Rollie Fingers made his first start since May 15, 1971, and was the loser on an unearned run.

Oscar Gamble walked in the second inning and tried for third on a single by George Hendrick. Bert Campaneris, the A's relay man, missed the throw from Joe Rudi and when Sal Bando grabbed the ball and overthrew third, where Fingers was covering, Gamble continued home to score. [The Sporting News]
