Bobby Bolin, taking the mound for the Red Sox with the bases loaded and two out in the ninth inning, struck out Harmon Killebrew to save a 4-3 victory over the Twins. Carlton Fisk homered for the Red Sox in the second, but the Twins went ahead, 3-1, before the Red Sox rallied to tie the score in the fifth.

One run scored on a single by Luis Aparicio for the 2,000th hit of his major league career. Designated hitter Orlando Cepeda doubled in the sixth and scored the deciding run on a double by John Kennedy. [The Sporting News]
