. . . where the 1970s live forever!
The Mets combined two of their four hits with a walk and an error for two runs in the sixth inning to defeat the Astros, 2-1. Jim McAndrew and Tug McGraw, who pitched for the Mets, allowed five hits, with the Astros' run coming on a homer by Doug Rader in the fifth.

Willie Mays walked to open the Mets' sixth and scored the tying run on singles by Rusty Staub and Jim Beauchamp. George Theodore bunted and when Bob Watson fumbled the ball, the bases were loaded. After Jim Fregosi struck out, Duffy Dyer grounded to Roger Metzger, but when the Astros failed in their attempt to turn a double play, Staub scored what proved to be the winning run.
