Hank Aaron hit the 679th and 680th homers of his major league career, but the Braves nevertheless lost to the Expos, 9-6. Aaron's smashes accounted for three runs. Darrell Evans also drove in three runs with a homer in the sixth.

The Expos took a 6-5 lead in the seventh inning when Mike Jorgensen hit for the circuit with a man on base, but Aaron tied the score with his second homer of the game in the Braves' half. In the eighth, the Expos loaded the bases and Hal Breeden delivered a pinch-single for the tie-breaking run. Ron Hunt followed with a single for two more tallies to clinch the decision.
