Orlando Cepeda, the A. L.'s leading slugger among designated hitters, smashed a grand-slam homer in the third inning to power the Red Sox to a 6-2 victory over the Rangers. The Red Sox loaded the bases on a single by Doug Griffin and two walks and scored one run on a pass to Reggie Smith before Cepeda tagged Pete Broberg for his homer. [The Sporting News]
