After trailing, 5-0, the Dodgers rallied to defeat the Cardinals, 6-5, in 10 innings. The Dodgers chipped away at the Cards' advantage and finally tied the score in the ninth on singles by Manny Mota and Willie Davis around an error by Mick Kelleher.

In the 10th, Bill Russell doubled with one out. Chris Cannizzaro flied to center field, but Jose Cruz, attempting a one-handed catch, dropped the ball. Russell took third on the error and scored the winning run on a single by Davey Lopes. [The Sporting News]
