Jacket Day attracted an amazing crowd of 60,120 and the Phillies also gave away the game to the Braves, 3-1, on two passes with the bases loaded in the eighth inning. Dusty Baker homered for the Braves in the fourth and Mike Ryan tied the score with a round-tripper in the fifth. Mac Scarce, taking over in relief for the Phillies in the eighth, was rapped for singles by Mike Lum and Baker before striking out pinch-hitter Hank Aaron. However, when Davey Johnson walked to load the bases, Billy Wilson was summoned. Wilson passed Marty Perez to force in the tie-breaking run and also walked Gary Gentry, the Braves' winning pitcher, to force in an extra tally. [The Sporting News] |
