A homer by Darrell Porter in the eighth inning broke a 2-2 tie and gave the Brewers a 3-2 victory over the Royals in a four-hit duel between Jerry Bell and Dick Drago. The Royals wrapped singles by Ed Kirkpatrick and Lou Piniella around an error for a run in the second and added their other tally on a round-tripper by John Mayberry in the fourth. The Brewers came back with a run in their half on a double by Tim Johnson, bunt single by Don Money and sacrifice fly by Dave May before tying the score with a homer by Johnny Briggs in the fifth.
