Although stopped on his streak of 28 scoreless innings, Wilbur Wood beat the Yankees for the seventh straight time since July 18, 1971, and the White Sox extended their winning streak to nine games with an 11-2 victory. Wood, who was rapped for 10 hits, gave up a run in the first inning on a triple by Matty Alou and single by Bobby Murcer. The Yankees did not add their other run until the ninth. Meanwhile, the White Sox piled up 17 hits, including three apiece by Pat Kelly, Dick Allen and Bill Melton. Melton batted in four runs. [The Sporting News]
