The Athletics, who got a five-hitter from Ken Holtzman in the first game and a six-hitter from Vida Blue in the second game, pounded the Indians in a doubleheader, 12-0 and 7-3. The A's piled up 18 hits in the lidlifter, including a homer by Joe Rudi. Bert Campaneris hit a two-run triple in the second inning and walked with the bases loaded for another RBI in the third. Bill North knocked in three runs with as many singles.

The A's were limited to nine hits in the nightcap, but their attack was potent with two-run homers by Deron Johnson and Sal Bando, a two-run double by Reggie Jackson and a homer with the bases empty by Gene Tenace. [The Sporting News]
