Tom Seaver was able to gain his first victory since April 12 when the Mets erupted for six runs in the eighth inning to defeat the Braves, 7-2. Wayne Garrett and Rusty Staub started the outburst with singles and Ed Kranepool drove in a run with a double to tie the score at 2-2. After an intentional pass to Jim Gosger, Bud Harrelson walked with one out to force in the go-ahead run.

Seaver forced Harrelson, Kranepool scoring, and when Davey Johnson threw wildly, attempting a double play, Gosger also crossed the plate. A pass to Ted Martinez and single by Felix Millan added the fifth run of the frame. Garrett then walked to load the bases and Staub drew a pass to force in the final marker. [The Sporting News]
