The White Sox, who had won nine straight games, were stopped on that streak by the Red Sox, 4-1. John Curtis, who had been relegated to the bullpen by the Red Sox, came out for his first start since April 19 and pitched a five-hitter. Stan Bahnsen was beaten, ending his string of nine straight victories over the Red Sox going back to May 20, 1971, when the righthander was pitching for the Yankees.
