Bill Greif pitched the second straight two-hitter to the credit of the Padres' staff and defeated the Cubs, 4-1. In the previous day's game, Mike Caldwell had a two-hitter in his 8-0 victory over the Pirates. Greif gave up a single by Glenn Beckert in the fourth inning and then was deprived of a shutout when Jose Cardenal homered in the eighth. Fred Kendall and Dave Campbell each batted in two of the Padres' tallies. [The Sporting News]
