Joe Pepitone, who was in uniform but out of action because of an upset stomach, came off the bench in the 12th inning and drove in a run with a double to give the Cubs a 3-2 victory over the Padres. Fergie Jenkins, who started on the mound for the Cubs, yielded two runs in the first and was in danger of losing until the eighth when Carmen Fanzone batted for him and walked and Rick Monday followed with a homer. In the 12th, Ken Rudolph doubled and Don Kessinger sacrificed before Pepitone batted for Bob Locker and drove in the deciding run. [The Sporting News]
