The Pirates smashed three more homers, giving them eight in two games, but they collected only three other hits and lost to the Dodgers, 7-4. Willie Stargell hit two of the Pirates' homers and Al Oliver accounted for other the one.

Stargell's second blast in the seventh cleared the right field pavilion and marked the second time that the slugger had driven a ball out of Dodger Stadium, a feat no other batter has been able to match. Stargell did it the first time August 5, 1969. The Dodgers won the game with five runs in the fifth inning, three scoring on a circuit clout by Ron Cey after Vic Davalillo committed an error on a play that would have ended the inning.
