Giants' round-trippers accounted for the first five runs off Bob Gibson, who set a major league record by making his 242nd consecutive start.

After the Cardinals crept within 6-5, the Giants decided the game with three runs in the eighth inning. A single by Jim Howarth and two walks loaded the bases.
