Ken Singleton scored one run and knocked in two to enable the Expos to defeat the Cardinals, 3-1. Singleton walked in the first inning, Mike Jorgensen singled and Bob Bailey drew a pass to load the bases. Singleton then scored while the Cardinals executed a double play on a grounder by Terry Humphrey.

Ron Hunt was hit by a pitch in the third and Ron Woods walked. Singleton followed with a single to right, scoring Hunt, and when Pete Rose was slow returning the ball to the infield, Woods raced home from first base to give Singleton credit for another RBI. [The Sporting News]
