Yielding only two hits, Tom Seaver pitched the Mets to a 6-0 victory over the Pirates. Wayne Garrett singled in the first inning, took third on a single by Felix Millan and scored when Cleon Jones grounded into a double play.

Seaver protected that scant edge until the Mets gave him more working room with two runs in the eighth on singles by Jones, Rusty Staub and Ed Kranepool and a double by Jim Gosger. Garrett homered in the ninth when the Mets added their final markers. [The Sporting News]
