. . . where the 1970s live forever!

Four homers provided the Yankees with a 4-0 victory in the opening game of a doubleheader, but the Orioles broke out of their batting slump to win the second game, 9-6. Bobby Murcer, Roy White, Ron Blomberg and Graig Nettles were the Yankees' sluggers in the lidlifter in support of the shutout pitching of Mel Stottlemyre and Sparky Lyle, who relieved with two men on base in the eighth inning.

In the nightcap, the Orioles ended a string of 23 scoreless innings with two runs in the second on a triple by Andy Etchebarren, a hit batsman, walk and single by Tommy Davis. However, the Orioles trailed, 5-2, before erupting for four runs in the fifth. Larry Brown homered with a man on base. The Orioles' winning margin went on the scoreboard in the eighth on a single by Brown, doubles by Mark Belanger and Merv Rettenmund, an infield out and sacrifice fly by Davis. [The Sporting News]
