Tommy Harper hit the first grand-slam homer of his major league career to help the Red Sox defeat the Indians, 8-3. In the sixth inning, John Kennedy doubled and scored on a single by Doug Griffin to chase Milt Wilcox, who was the Indians' starter. Ray Lamb walked Dwight Evans before giving way to Steve Mingori. With a count of three balls and two strikes, Rick Miller laid down a surprise bunt to load the bases. Harper then swung at Mingori's next pitch and lashed the ball into the screen in left-center field. Carl Yastrzemski joined in the Red Sox attack with two homers, good for three runs, while Dave Duncan hit a three-run blow for the Indians. [The Sporting News] |
