Coming from behind, the Cardinals scored three runs in the eighth inning to enable Bob Gibson to defeat the Expos, 3-2. Bill Stoneman held the Cardinals to only two hits until losing his stuff in the eighth. Mike Tyson singled to start the stanza and Tim McCarver walked. Lou Brock forced Tyson at third and Jose Cruz flied out, but Joe Torre singled to score McCarver.
