Led by Jim Beauchamp, who drove in four runs with a pair of singles, the Mets posted a 6-4 victory to complete the sweep of a three-game series with the slumping Pirates, who went down to their fifth straight defeat and 13th in the last 17 games. Beauchamp batted in his first two runs with a single in the fourth before the Mets added four more in the fifth.

Jim McAndrew and Ted Martinez walked. Jim Fregosi singled to score McAndrew. Martinez crossed the plate when Cleon Jones forced Fregosi. Rusty Staub doubled and Beauchamp followed with his second single for two runs that provided the Mets' winning margin. [The Sporting News]
