Hank Aaron hit his 682nd and 683rd homers, leaving him 31 shy of Babe Ruth's career record of 714, as the Braves split a doubleheader with the Padres, losing the first game, 6-4, and winning the second game, 6-2. Aaron delivered his homer in the lidlifter as a pinch-hitter with a man on base in the ninth inning. Jerry Morales and Johnny Grubb led the Padres' attack, driving in five runs between them. Aaron started the nightcap in left field and broke a 2-2 tie with his second smash of the day in the third inning. [The Sporting News] |
