The Padres broke a tight game apart with five runs in the seventh inning and defeated the Giants, 7-1. Bobby Bonds homered for the Giants' run in the first. The Padres, after tying the score in the third, opened the seventh with a single by Dave Hilton. Mike Corkins bunted and both runners were safe on a fielder's choice.

Enzo Hernandez walked and Johnny Grubb singled for the tie-breaking tally to chase Tom Bradley, who made his first appearance on the mound for the Giants since hurting his ankle April 17. Jerry Morales singled off reliever Elias Sosa to drive in Corkins. A triple by Cito Gaston added two runs and Fred Kendall scratched a single to deep short to score Gaston. [The Sporting News]
