Mickey Lolich, who is continuing to experience rough going, was knocked out in the eighth when the Red Sox rallied for three runs to tie the score at 5-5. Ike Brown walked for the Tigers in 10th and John Gamble ran for him. With one out, Duke Sims singled and Dick McAuliffe walked to load the bases.
