The Pirates knocked out Steve Carlton in the seventh inning and scored three runs to defeat the Phillies, 5-2. Gene Alley started the outburst with a single. Milt May and Rennie Stennett walked to load the bases. When Mike Schmidt bobbled a smash by Gene Clines, Alley scored to break the 2-2 tie. Dave Cash then doubled to drive in two extra runs.
