With principal batting support from Wayne Garrett, Tom Seaver was able to pitch the Mets to a 4-3 victory over the Pirates. Seaver also helped himself at bat, hitting a single in the third inning before Garrett connected for a homer. The Mets went on to add another run in that same stanza on singles by Ted Martinez and Rusty Staub around an infield out.
