With principal batting support from Wayne Garrett, Tom Seaver was able to pitch the Mets to a 4-3 victory over the Pirates. Seaver also helped himself at bat, hitting a single in the third inning before Garrett connected for a homer. The Mets went on to add another run in that same stanza on singles by Ted Martinez and Rusty Staub around an infield out. Bud Harrelson singled in the fourth, stole second and scored what proved to be the winning run on a single by Garrett. [The Sporting News]
