After giving up a run in the first inning, Doyle Alexander checked the Red Sox over the remainder of the route and pitched the Orioles to a 3-1 victory. The Red Sox got on the scoreboard with a walk to Tommy Harper, single by Carl Yastrzemski and double by Orlando Cepeda.

Paul Blair hit his first homer of the season for the Orioles to tie the score in the second. A walk to Bobby Grich, single by Tommy Davis and sacrifice fly by Don Baylor added the go-ahead run in the third. Blair singled in the sixth and counted the final tally on a double by Boog Powell.
