Two wild pitches proved costly to Dave McNally, who absorbed his sixth straight defeat when the Indians scored twice in the ninth inning to defeat the Orioles, 5-3. With two out, Walt Williams singled and stole second. Williams took third on McNally's first wild pitch and scored when the lefthander threw wild again on the fourth ball to Rusty Torres. Frank Duffy also walked and Buddy Bell then singled off reliever Orlando Pena to drive in an extra run. Charlie Spikes accounted for the Indians' first three tallies with a homer in the fourth.
