The slugging of John Mayberry, who drove in four runs with two homers, was not enough for the Royals, who lost to the Twins, 8-7. Mayberry also rapped a single and double and walked in his perfect night at the plate.

The Twins took a 4-3 lead in the third inning with three runs on two walks, a single by Rod Carew and another single after two out by Harmon Killebrew. Two runs followed in the fourth on a walk to Steve Braun, single by Danny Thompson, a wild pitch and single by Larry Hisle.
