Breaking up a scoreless duel, the Brewers erupted for four runs in the ninth inning and then stood off a rally by the Red Sox to gain a 4-2 victory. Ellie Rodriguez opened the ninth with a single and gave way on the paths to Gorman Thomas. After a sacrifice by Dave May and intentional pass to George Scott, Don Money singled to score Thomas. Johnny Briggs walked to load the bases, chasing Jack Curtis. Joe Lahoud greeted Bobby Bolin with a single, driving in Scott and Money. Tim Johnson then scored Briggs with a squeeze bunt.
