The Cardinals jumped on Jerry Koosman for all their runs in the seventh inning and defeated the Mets, 5-3. Ted Simmons started with a single and stopped at second on a single by Bill Stein. When Ken Boswell left third base, without calling time, to encourage Koosman, Simmons stole third. The Mets brought in their infield and Ken Reitz slapped a single through to left field, scoring Simmons.

After a sacrifice by Jose Cruz and intentional pass to Mike Tyson, Rick Wise helped himself to victory with a two-run double. Lou Brock followed with a single to add two more runs for what proved to be the Cardinals' winning margin. [The Sporting News]
