After the first three innings wound up in a 6-6 tie, the Athletics scored twice in the sixth with the aid of an error and defeated the Rangers, 8-6. Reggie Jackson doubled home two runs for the A's in the first, but the Rangers jumped on Vida Blue for five in the second, including a two-run homer by Dave Nelson. The A's came back with four runs in their half, three scoring on a homer by Sal Bando. The Rangers pulled even in the third when Jeff Burroughs walked and Vic Harris tripled.

In the sixth, Rich McKinney led off with a single and when Dick Green bunted, Bill Sudakis threw wildly to second. McKinney reached third and Green took second on the error. Bill North then singled to plate McKinney and Bert Campaneris lofted a sacrifice fly to score Green. [The Sporting News]
