The Yankees, who were losing 7-0 after 1 1/3 innings, rallied to defeat the Rangers, 9-7, capping their comeback with a three-run homer by Gene Michael. With the Rangers still ahead, 7-5, Graig Nettles led off the seventh inning with a single and Thurman Munson walked. Ron Blomberg delivered a pinch-single to score pinch-runner Celerino Sanchez. With runners on first and second, Michael prepared to sacrifice, but the pitch from Steve Foucault was high. On the next delivery, Michael swung away and connected for his homer.
