While Milt Pappas and Jack Aker combined on a five-hitter, the Cubs scored twice in the third inning and defeated the Reds, 2-0. Pappas touched off the Cubs' scoring stanza with a single and was forced by Rick Monday. Don Kessinger tripled to drive in Monday and scored himself on a single by Billy Williams.
