Nelson Briles, who joined in the Pirates' attack with a double and homer before being relieved in the eighth inning, received credit for a 7-2 victory over the Astros. Jim Wynn homered for the Astros in the eighth and when two more hits followed, Dave Giusti took over and finished the game. The Pirates decided the contest with four runs in the fifth, two scoring on a triple by Al Oliver. Briles hit his homer in the sixth.
