. . . where the 1970s live forever!

Jim Northrup snapped an eighth-inning tie with a two-run triple for his 1,000th major league hit to lead the Tigers to an 8-5 victory over the Athletics. Rich Reese walked and Dick Sharon, bunting, was safe on an error by Gene Tenace before Northrup rapped a drive to the 415-foot mark in right-center field. Aurelio Rodriguez scored Northrup with a sacrifice fly. Rodriguez had an earlier homer, while Tenace and Deron Johnson each hit one for the Athletics. [The Sporting News]
