. . . where the 1970s live forever!

Fergie Jenkins allowed only three hits and pitched the Cubs to a 6-0 victory over the Reds. Jenkins retired the first 12 batters in succession before rain forced a 51-minute delay. When play resumed, Johnny Bench singled for the Reds' first hit.

The Cubs were held in check by Jim McGlothlin until the seventh inning when they erupted for three runs on a double by Ron Santo, single by Jose Cardenal, double by Randy Hundley and single by Don Kessinger. Three other runs counted off Pedro Borbon in the ninth on singles by Cardenal and Pat Bourque, triple by Kessinger and double by Jenkins. [The Sporting News]
