Del Unser, who hit a homer to win the first game, drove in four more runs in the second game as the Phillies swept over the Padres in a doubleheader, 4-3 and 6-4. The Phils scored three runs in the first inning of the lidlifter on only one hit, a single by Cesar Tovar, together with three errors, a hit batsman, a walk and sacrifice fly. Unser then hit his homer in the fifth to produce what proved to be the winning run. Dave Roberts homered for the Padres.

In the nightcap, the Phillies exploded for five runs in the fourth inning, three scoring on a bases-loaded double by Unser, who had three hits in the game and added his other RBI in the sixth. [The Sporting News]
