Luke Walker and Jim Rooker combined on a seven-hitter as the Pirates defeated the Braves, 6-1. Walker, who worked the first seven innings, gave up five hits and yielded the Braves' run on a triple by Ralph Garr and single by Darrell Evans. Walker batted in one of the Pirates' runs while trying to sacrifice. His bunt trickled into the outfield for a hit to score Milt May. Willie Stargell batted in two runs with a single and homer.
