A double by Paul Blair for his third hit of the game and a single by Brooks Robinson supplied a run for the Orioles in the eighth inning to defeat the Royals, 3-2. The Royals were victims of bad luck in their half after Amos Otis tripled. Jim Palmer threw a wild pitch over catcher Andy Etchebarren's head, but the ball struck the concrete behind home plate and bounced directly back to Etchebarren, who tossed to Palmer for the tag on Otis trying to score.
