A two-run homer by designated hitter Orlando Cepeda enabled the Red Sox to defeat the Angels, 2-1. The Angels put together singles by Sandy Alomar, Bobby Brooks and Bob Oliver for a run in the first inning, but Reggie Smith walked in the second and Cepeda followed with his homer to beat Nolan Ryan. Bill Lee was the winner with the help of Bobby Bolin, who saved the game by retiring Tommy McCraw on a fly with the bases loaded in the eighth. [The Sporting News]
