Tom Seaver yielded only three hits, struck out 16 and smashed a homer in his own behalf, but was in danger of losing until the Mets erupted for four runs in the ninth inning to defeat the Giants, 5-2. Seaver, who hit for the circuit in the fifth, fell behind when Tito Fuentes doubled and Willie McCovey homered in the sixth.

Ken Boswell walked to open the Mets' rally in the ninth, Bud Harrelson singled and Seaver bunted safely to load the bases. Wayne Garrett drew a walk to force in the tying run.
