The Yankees smashed four homers, including three in one inning, and defeated the Athletics, 7-1. Catfish Hunter, who started for the A's, set down the Yankees in the first for his 27th consecutive scoreless inning before his string was snapped when Ron Blomberg singled and Graig Nettles homered.

Horace Clarke opened the third with a single and Roy White followed with a homer. After Matty Alou flied out, Bobby Murcer hit for the circuit. Blomberg doubled to kayo Hunter. Nettles then greeted Paul Lindblad with his second homer of the game and the Yankees' third of the inning. [The Sporting News]
