With two out and a count of two strikes, Lou Brock rapped a run-scoring single in the eighth inning to spark the Cardinals to a 5-2 victory over the Reds, extending their winning streak to eight games. Ken Reitz opened the inning with a single and advanced on a sacrifice by Jose Cruz.

After Mike Tyson flied out, the Reds passed pinch-hitter Tim McCarver intentionally, only to have Brock upset the applecart with his single, scoring pinch-runner Dwain Anderson and sending McCarver to third. Brock then stole second and two more runs scored on a single by Ted Sizemore. [The Sporting News]
