The Padres, after losing the opener of a twi-night doubleheader, 5-3, ended their six-game losing streak when Johnny Grubb smashed a three-run homer in the eighth inning of the nightcap to beat the Expos, 3-2. Bob Bailey hit two homers for the Expos, driving in three runs, to help Bill Stoneman to his first victory of the season in the lidlifter. However, Stoneman was chased in the seventh inning when the Padres scored two runs. Mike Marshall came in to end the threat by retiring Grubb.

It was different in the second game when Marshall relieved again in the eighth after Jerry Morales doubled and Enzo Hernandez beat out a bunt against Mike Torrez. Grubb was at bat and on Marshall's first pitch, the rookie outfielder smashed his winning homer. [The Sporting News]
