Helping himself at bat, Ron Bryant doubled in the eighth inning and subsequently scored on a wild pitch to account for his own winning run as the Giants defeated the Phillies, 2-1. Bryant gave up the Phillies' tally in the first on a double by Cesar Tovar and single by Terry Harmon. Willie McCovey tied the score with a homer in the fourth.

After Bryant hit his double in the eighth, Bobby Bonds walked, Tito Fuentes sacrificed and Garry Maddox was hit by a pitch to load the bases. Mac Scarce replaced Wayne Twitchell and uncorked a wild pitch, facing McCovey, to allow Bryant to cross the plate. [The Sporting News]
