Playing before a Bat Day crowd of 60,108, the Yankees struck for all their runs in one inning and beat the Angels, 3-2, on Sparky Lyle's clutch relief pitching. In the sixth, Graig Nettles doubled, Thurman Munson walked, Felipe Alou singled, Gene Michael hit a scoring grounder and Horace Clarke doubled to produce the Yankee tallies.

In the ninth, Lyle gave up a run-scoring single by Winston Llenas alter replacing Doc Medich but then retired Vada Pinson on a pop fly and Bobby Brooks on a strikeout with the bases loaded to save the game. [The Sporting News]
