The Mets, who had been shut out in the first two games of the series, broke loose behind the pitching of Tom Seaver and defeated the Padres, 9-2. The victory was the fifth in a row for Seaver, who was staked to a quick lead in the first inning when John Milner drove in two runs with a single to end the Mets' scoring drouth.
